Star fish room
The star fish and clown fish rooms is able to accommodate 9 children from 3 months to 2 years old. The staff to child ratio is 1:3 which is adhered to at all times. The staff in the under two room take the children for as many walks as possible and utilise the enclosed back garden daily, weather permitting. The children all have their own routines and the staffs within the room are happy to accommodate these. The routines of the children are taken into account when planning for the children as well as the guidance ‘Realising the ambition: being me ’. There is a flexible routine in this room with activities including sand or water, painting, gluing, play dough, etc. the room is set up ready for fun and play
The cot room lies adjacent to the under two’s room for any child who may need a sleep/nap.
Octopus Room
The Octopus Room is able to accommodate 10 children and the staff to child ratio is for 1:5. The children in this room get regular exercise /play outside as well as activities and experiences within the nursery which include sand, water, painting, gluing, building etc. All activities and planning for this room are in line with the ‘Realising the ambition: being me’ guidelines. The children go on many trips throughout the year. Again the routine in this room is flexible to allow for individual child routines. We aim to provide each child with as many different play experiences from baking to art activities and messy play. Funding is available for eligible twos please enquire to the manager.
Seahorse and dolphin Rooms
The seahorse and dolphin rooms are set up for our over threes. In this room our child to staff ratio is 1:8. Funding is available for every child over 3 years of age to participate in the pre-school partnership with East Lothian Council. We are inspected by Education Scotland and receive regular advice and training sessions held by the local authority. Our staff are trained in the current guidelines of the ‘Curriculum for Excellence’ and work very hard to ensure our children are becoming responsible citizens, effective contributors, successful learners and confident individuals. We also go on planned trips, invite people to come and see us including police, fire, dentist etc. We also go outside to the garden daily so the children can enjoy the feeling of well-being, play in our muddy kitchen and sensory garden as well as burn off some energy with our large physical plays area.
The nursery has a large safe and secure garden with a wide range of equipment such as a muddy kitchen, large loose part equipment, sensory garden, sandpit and a wide selection of bikes and push along toys. The children can play with sand and water play, as well as the many other activities which can be transferred from inside to outside. The children have access to our garden during the day and enjoy growing vegetables and fruit in our vegetable patch.
